The inland road opens, and the first half of the game fills out
A big batch of new places, quests and things to do between Hope Beach and the far north is on its way. Some of it has been built and checked; it reaches the game with the next update.
New places
- Brindlecross: a road village west of Lantern Wake, with a shop, a handful of locals and trouble in the bean fields.
- Riversend Halt: a river town with an old stone bridge that needs mending, and a track heading west.
- Greenwood Wilds: deep green woods west of Brindlecross, home to lynxes, thieves and something very old with antlers.
- Emberdeep Ruins: a scorched ruin behind the West Track, sealed by an Ash Gate until you light three cold seals.
- The Dwarf Road: the long road north of Riversend, guarded by an Iron Warden at the pass.
- The Red Waste: a cracked, dangerous stretch of the Dreadwoods where the Redcaps have a bone camp. Other players can attack you here.
- Gallowmere: a quiet village with a safe pocket behind a palisade. Stay inside after dark, or go and deal with what walks out.
- Rook's Orchard and The Last Weighhouse: two small stops in the Eastern Marches, with a rook problem and a scale that hangs crooked.
- Bramble Fair's new contest meadow: archery butts, a greasy piglet chase, a livestock show and a sheepdog herding trial.
- Windward Signal Field and Chalkshell Scarp: a hilltop of masts, flags and a warning bell, and a pale chalk shelf by the sea with a sealed white stone. Four new locals have errands for you, gale crows and chalk burrowers keep to themselves until struck, and there is coal, iron and gold to mine.
- Highstone: a hill east of Highwayman's Ridge where a world boss turns up now and then.
- More frozen hiding places on the snowfields and coast, including the Shiverbell Reliquary and a smugglers' grotto.
- Fenstone: a reed marsh south of the Capital's river with a third stone ring. The Bog Toad King and the Great Heron come in turn, and no two rings ever fight at once.
New quests
- Trouble at the Crossing, A Stronger Bridge, The Greenwarden's Glade, Light the Ember Seals and Cinder and Ash lead you inland, one town at a time.
- The Cracked Bell, Raiders of the Red Waste and The Gatewarden's Rounds send you into the dangerous corners of the Dreadwoods.
- The Gull's Map is a three-part sea adventure: torn maps, a boarded ship, a grotto that only opens at low water, and a finale at Fort Rook where a pirate captain whistles up her crew.
- The Missing Shipment, A Dog for the Flock, Shiny Trouble, A Nest of Thieves, A Matter of Weight and Ledger in the Dust fill out the Eastern Marches.
- Breaking the Ironjaw and Floe Watch take you to the frozen road.
- Ride the Line, three jobs for the Western Line's halt master: deliver timetables, fetch coal, and race the Night Mail to every stop.
- Windward and Chalkshell each have a chain of three quests: Broken Signal, Flags Against the Wind and A Bell for the Beacon, then Shell Game, Broken Extraction and Under the White Stone.
Things to do
- The Fishing Derby: every couple of hours a short contest opens on a different water. Weigh in your best catch for ribbons and a cup.
- Hask's Sled Run: after The Mammoth Road, ride a sled down the hill, lean into the bends and chase the fastest time.
- The Explorer's Ledger: a book that keeps track of the places you have found, the bosses you have beaten, the fishing derbies and sled runs you have done, and the contests you have won.
- The Capital sparring yard: friendly bouts against drill sergeants who yield when you land the winning blow.
- Daily reasons to come back: a new contract each day that pays an extra satchel, a good the fair pays double for, Farmhand Joss's harvest cart orders, and a line at login about what is on today.
- Raids at the Forge Halt now and then, if you are riding the Western Line.
- Highstone and Fenstone join Ringstone as stone rings with their own boss events. Each has a countdown on its board and in world chat.
Gear and skills
- New bows in more kinds of wood, and Roadwarden Gloves from the Brindlecross road.
- Gold and silver: new ore to mine, new bars to smelt, and silver weapons that hit the undead harder.
- A new Blackwake pirate set, and the Fair Ribbon for contest winners.
- New herbs and new brews to forage and cook up, and the Tide Snapper to catch at Lantern Wake's cove.
- Bosses have clearer warnings now: each big attack draws its own shape on the ground before it lands.
