Data protection

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 1, 2026

1. Introduction

Dreadwoods respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect when you use our website, register an account, and play our game, as well as how that information is used, protected, and shared.

2. Information We Collect

We collect minimal personal data necessary to operate an online multiplayer game:

  • Account Information: Your email address and a cryptographically salted and hashed representation of your password. We never store plain-text passwords.
  • Game Data: Character names, appearances, inventory, combat levels, skill levels, quest progress, high scores, and position coordinates within the game world.
  • Technical Data: Basic server log information including IP address, browser type, device information, and session connection timestamps, used for service security and abuse prevention.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information solely for the following legitimate purposes:

  • To create and administer your game account and authenticate your logins.
  • To send essential transactional emails, such as account verification and password reset links.
  • To maintain multiplayer synchronization, persistence of game characters, and in-game leaderboards.
  • To detect and prevent botting, cheating, fraud, and unauthorized system access.
  • To analyze server performance and troubleshoot technical glitches.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser local storage and session storage solely to maintain your active authentication session, preserve game client settings (such as audio preferences, zoom level, and UI toggles), remember your cookie choice, and avoid sending the same error report twice. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

In the Dreadwoods Android app there is no cookie banner and no Google Analytics: the app does not count visits.

On our public pages (not in the game or your account pages) a banner asks whether we may use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. Only if you press Accept does Google Analytics load and set its cookies; press No thanks and it never loads. You can change your mind at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the page.

5. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Public game information (such as your character's name, combat level, skill ranks, and leaderboard rank) is visible to other players in the game world and on the public high scores chart.

When something breaks in the game, on this site or on our servers, an error report goes to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), the service we use to find and fix faults. A report says what failed and where: the page address without anything after its "?", your browser and device type, the country and town it was sent from (Sentry works these out from your connection and does not keep its address), and the state of the game (such as the area you were in). It never holds your name, email address, IP address or password, and it uses no cookies.

We may disclose personal information if required to do so by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Dreadwoods, its players, or the public.

6. Data Security and Retention

We implement industry-standard security measures, including HTTPS encryption and salted password hashing, to protect your data. Your account information is retained for as long as your account remains active. You may ask for your account to be deleted at any time: see how to delete your account.

7. Children's Privacy

Dreadwoods does not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13 without parental consent. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal data without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to remove such data and terminate the account.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location (such as under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights or make inquiries about your data, please contact the Dreadwoods administration team.

9. Updates to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When changes are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Continued use of the Service constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
